Cognitive restructuring
Cognitive restructuring is a psychological technique used to identify, challenge, and alter negative thought patterns. Often part of CBT, it helps people examine their thoughts, especially those that are irrational, self-defeating, or overly pessimistic, and replace them with healthier, more balanced perspectives. This shift in thought patterns can reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties, as negative thinking often worsens these conditions.
Cognitive Restructuring entails learning how to: identify negative thoughts, challenge and question these thoughts, reframe or replace the thoughts, and practice the new ways of thinking.
